African velvet tamarind is the fruit of a native West African tree called Dialium Guineense. Popularly known as Awin in Yoruba, Icheku in Igbo and Tsamiyar kurm in Hausa, Velvet Tamarind is a seasonal fruit with a sweet and tangy taste
This plant is a seasonal, tall, tropical, fruit-bearing tree in the flowering plant family. This plant though underrated , has a lot of nutraceutical, nutritional and economic benefits
According to research, the leaf extract inhibits the growth of Plasmodium falciparum which causes malaria, therefore, taking a concoction of the leaf can cure malaria.
